Lakes Entrance

Rising early on Sunday morning, the weary travelers managed to navigate through Melbourne and be clear of the city traffic by about eight o’clock. Arriving at Rosedale around midday, we set up camp at Willow Park, the former town common.

Lakes Entrance is a coastal town located in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia, deriving its name from the man-made entrance from the sea into the lakes. The town was established in the late 1800s as a port for the transportation of timber, and its location at the eastern end of a network of lakes and waterways makes it a popular destination for boating and fishing. The Gippsland Lakes is a vast network of inland waterways that stretch over 400 square kilometers.

After setting up the van at the Lakes Entrance Recreation and Camping Reserve, a lovely sunny day provided the opportunity to check out the Main Beach which is accessed via an excellent footbridge.

Despite being a relatively small town with a population of about 5000, Lakes Entance has an astonishing fourteen caravan parks! Don’t be fooled by the sunny photographs, being a coastal town, Lakes Entrance can dish up four seasons in one day, plenty of wind and a fair share of gloomy days.

Pictured below in the part of the gantry involved in the building of the “Entrance”. According to local information, the historical society are very interested in the gantry too!
