The gateway to Victoria’s wilderness coast in Far East Gippsland, Marlo is a tranquil seaside town at the mouth of the Snowy River with a population of about 500 residents (for most of the year). After our successful fishing and prawning workout at Lake Tyers we had a few days rest at Marlo Ocean Views Caravan Park.

A very popular holiday destination, only fourteen kilometres south of Orbost, the village boasts two large caravan parks, the large historic Marlo Hotel, a Post Office/General store and a fishing tackle/hardware/cafe business.

The sheltered waters of the estuary at Marlo allow fishing all year around and the waters produce some of the best perch and bream fishing in Australia.

Marlo is a haven for bushwalking, birdwatching, remote beaches and water-based activities. The littoral rainforest stretching along the river at Marlo is the only example existing in Victoria.

With a gentle south-westerly blowing in off Bass Strait, the air doesn’t get much fresher!

Immensely popular during the holiday seasons, the sandy estuary of the Snowy River is a lovely place to walk, fish or just relax. Maybe even pose for a photo?
