Tom Price, located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, is a mining town known for its stunning natural beauty and rich iron ore deposits. Named after Thomas Moore Price, the former Vice President of the American steel company Kaiser Steel, the town serves as a gateway to the breathtaking Karijini National Park.
We stayed three nights at the Tom Price Tourist Park beneath the Hamersley Ranges, which provide a dramatic backdrop to the town and are renowned for their vibrant red hues and unique geological formations.

Hamersley Gorge
One of the most captivating attractions near Tom Price is Hamersley Gorge, a natural wonder nestled within the Karijini National Park. The gorge is a testament to the power of erosion, as millennia of water and weathering have carved deep chasms into the earth’s surface.

Hamersley Gorge is renowned for its striking layers of rock, ranging from rich reds to deep purples, creating a stunning contrast against the clear, emerald-green waters of its pools.

A short hike through the gorge takes visitors along a rocky trail leading to the iconic Spa Pool. This naturally formed swimming hole is a favorite among travelers for its tranquil ambiance and crystal-clear waters, making it a refreshing oasis in the rugged and usually very hot Pilbara region.

Hamersley Gorge offers a unique blend of adventure and relaxation, making it a must-visit destination for those exploring Western Australia’s incredible natural beauty.
