Feeling the Warmth!

After many weeks traveling north in our beautiful country, we have arrived in the land of shorts and thongs. Although, it may surprise some, the nights can be a bit chilly even this far north and the old “tracky pants” are still required most mornings. Bearing in mind, morning for Jack usually begins about five o’clock!

Townsville

Our five days in Townsville was highlighted by catching up with Jack’s long lost friends Gerard and Vicky, and Mallie’s workmate Tracy. A drive up to Castle Hill, in the centre of Townsville provided us with a magnificent overview of the city.

Lucinda

Leaving the Bruce Highway at Ingham, our trek took us through the lush sugar cane field of the Herbert River district. As well as a very popular fishing and holiday destination, Lucinda main purpose is the export of bulk raw sugar from the Port of Lucinda. The raw sugar is conveyed along a 5.76 kilometre jetty to the waiting ships. See the Youtube video below:

Kurrimine Beach

After catching a few small fish off the Lucinda Jetty, we saddled up again, forging on for another two hours north to the small holiday village of Kurrimine Beach. With King Reef situated a few kilometres offshore, the locality is a haven for fishing. A few days of beautiful calm weather was perfect for boating and produced some large red emperor and coral trout for the lucky fisherman! View the video below and take a walk along the beach with us:

Innisfail

Less than half an hour away, Innisfail provided a lovely destination for a Sunday drive. After mass we enjoy lunch beside the Johnstone River, and a trip to Coconut and Flying Fish Point. A drive through the sugar cane fields and banana crops of the South Johnston and Mena Creek localities completed our outing.

Coming: Wheeling to the port side and up the hills!
